Rock Luggage review: Our honest thoughts

Rock Luggage is a UK-based travel accessory business that is emerging as a top player in the luggage market, thanks to its range of trendy Rock cabin bags, suitcases and backpacks.

But are its products really worth the buzz?

We put one of the brand’s most popular suitcases to the test to determine if it deserves a place amongst luggage juggernauts such as Antler, Away and Samsonite

Pros & Cons
  • Stylish design

  • Available in seven colours

  • Easy to manoeuvre

  • Durable outer shell

  • Roomy interior compartments

  • Secure Travel Sentry Approved (TSA) lock

One of the brand’s most popular and stylish luggage ranges, the Vintage Suitcase offers old-fashioned glamour that resembles iconic vintage cases (hence the name).

We opted to test out the small, cabin-friendly size, as we thought this was likely to be the most popular and useful size for the majority of travellers, but it’s available in medium and large, too.

You can also buy a Vintage Suitcase Set featuring all three sizes, which is a solid choice for frequent travellers requiring multiple suitcase options.

Our first impressions

Upon unboxing, we were immediately struck by how stunning the suitcase was.

It has an expensive look thanks to the gold detailing and classic cream and black colourway which feels quite unique compared to other suitcases available on the market.

In terms of performance, we were impressed by how well the 360-degree rotating spinner wheels navigated both the carpet and wooden flooring in our home.

It was simple to manoeuvre outside, too, gliding easily over the uneven street paving with minimal noise helped by the telescopic handle —- which is opened and closed with a simple push-button.

How spacious is the Vintage Suitcase?

The small Vintage has a 32l capacity, which is on the smaller end of average when it comes to cabin-sized luggage.

So, as we’re sometimes guilty of over-packing, we were keen to see if it would be able to cater to our needs.

For the sole purpose of testing the suitcase (honest!), we booked a night’s stay at a hotel to see how much we could comfortably pack.

Honestly? We were pretty impressed.

The interior is spacious and features both a zipped pocket and a mesh divider section, making organising your essentials a breeze.

It also has an elasticated packing strap that really helps compress your clothes down so you can fit even more outfits inside (always a bonus).

We managed to fit quite a few items of clothing inside the pocket as well, which means you can effectively double your packing space by utilising the pocket alongside the main compartment.

Although we only went away for one night, we feel fairly confident in saying that the small size is more than roomy enough to take with you on a two or three-night trip.

Is Rock Luggage durable?

The Vintage Suitcase is made from sturdy Acrylonitrile Butadiene Styrene (ABS) material, which is a popular choice for hardshell luggage thanks to the fact that it’s tough, impact-resistant and less susceptible to damage.

Just from touching the suitcase, it’s obvious that it’s designed to last.

It feels sturdy and doesn’t bend or bow to pressure very easily, meaning you can rest assured that your belongings will remain protected.

And, while we didn’t exactly throw it around vigorously, it was knocked about a bit in our car boot during a two-hour car journey, and we couldn’t see any dents, scratches or tears.

It also has a very secure TSA combination lock that is simple to set up, so you won’t have to worry about any prying hands trying to get in.

Just don’t forget your code!

Alternative Rock Luggage suitcase options

As already mentioned above, we love the look of the Vintage Suitcase, but appreciate that it might not be everyone’s cup of tea.

Luckily, Rock Luggage offers a large luggage range designed to cater to every style, taste and need.

Maybe one of these hand-picked options is more up your alley?

Another popular hardshell suitcase choice, the Tulum is a sleek, slightly more affordable option than the Vintage.

It’s designed to be hardwearing and impact-resistant with an ultra-strong polypropylene exterior. It’s also expandable so you don’t have to worry about leaving any essentials behind, and features Rock Luggage’s classic integrated combination lock to keep your belongings safe.

We’re big fans of the Tulum’s pastel, summery shade options that are certainly reminiscent of its namesake.

The Sunwave is similar to the Tulum in terms of features — including the sturdy polypropylene exterior and expandable interior — but offers a more classic, sophisticated design.

It’s also available in a range of colours, from timeless black to fun hot pink.

If you prefer softshell luggage, the Jewel makes a fantastic option.

The case has a unique, 3D design on the exterior and features a zipped front pocket that comes in handy for keeping travel essentials within easy reach.

Inside, you’ll find a roomy main compartment, as well as two packing straps and a separate mesh pocket to keep all your bits and bobs organised.

Are Rock Luggage suitcases worth it?

In our opinion? Absolutely.

As we reviewed our Rock Luggage, we were extremely impressed with the quality and performance of our suitcase, from the spinner wheels that glide like a dream to the surprisingly spacious interior. It looks pretty chic, too.

And, while they’re not the cheapest suitcases on the market, we think the durable materials and high-quality finishes are well worth splurging a little.

So, if you’re looking to invest in a new travel must-have, we highly recommend taking the plunge and purchasing a Rock Luggage suitcase.
