Thomas Cohen opens up about Peaches Geldof's death

The singer Thomas Cohen has given a candid interview about the loss of his wife, Peaches Geldof, three years after she died from a heroin overdose.

Speaking to the German magazine Bild , Cohen, 25, said it was a bitter irony that the couple's sons Astala, five, and Phaedra, four, have now been alive for longer than their mother has been dead.

Peaches Geldof was 25 at the time of her death. In a tragic symmetry, her mother, Paula Yates, had died of a heroin overdoes in 2000, aged 41.

Cohen, a singer with the band S.C.U.M., remembered the moment that he found his wife's body, saying that he had to immediately move to the everyday matter of feeding their sons their lunch.

"When I found her, I was not surprised. I thought to myself at the moment: 'Yes of course - you had to do that.' What I can remember, it must have been an hour after I've found it, that it's time for the kids' lunch.

"They needed their lunch. So I took the children's chairs to the table, took the yoghurts out of the fridge, the bananas. After that we drove [away] escorted by the police. The routine I had to keep up with the children helped me a lot. They have lived longer than they knew their mother. They were just one and two years. Now they are four and five."
